Easter Cross Project
SPAM celebrated community spirit at Easter by creating a 2.4m by 2.4m cross out of 250 individual tiles, to be displayed at St Paul’s. SPAM and members of St Paul’s took away small wooden tiles made by Valentin Tinc and created their own mini cross from a huge variety of media including painting, photography, text and collage. Some tiles went for a scriptural approach concentrating on what Easter means for them with messages of thanks and praise. Other contributors created crosses with fabric, ribbons, buttons, photos of hot cross buns or images of crosses in nature, and even carved into the pine wood tile. Still others took a more unusual approach with binary code, twisted copper wire, mirrors and origami. The one thing that united all of these crosses was a celebration of what Easter means to us. The Easter Cross project was a powerful visual display of how our individual creativity contributes to our diverse community here at St Paul’s. It all comes together on the cross.
